
Forwarding mail
- Switching on and off
- Do you want to switch on Forward uMail?
- In the mail programme, select the menu option: "Forward mail/Autoreply" .
- Tick the option "Switch on e-mail forwarding".
- Enter the new mail address in the "Forwarding address" field. The correctness of this mail address will not be checked.
- If you want to keep a copy of the mail forwarded in your uMailbox, tick the box after: "Keep a local copy".
- Click the button [Save changes].
- A test mail will be sent to your uMailbox. Not received the test mail?
If you want to switch off Mail forwarding, remove the tick before: "Switch on e-mail forwarding".
- Consequences
- You are responsible for correctly setting your mail forwarding.
- If you want to use a different mail address, you should alter your mail forwarding instruction.
- You should be available to receive mail at the forwarding mail address.
- Leiden University never sends mail directly to your forwarding e-mail address, only to your uMail address.
- You can continue to use your uMailbox to send e-mail.
- If you keep a local copy, you should regularly check your storage space used.
- Leiden University is responsible for forwarding messages, but is not responsible for the further forwarding to or receipt in the alternative mailbox.
- If a mail forwarding instruction causes disruptions to mail traffic, ULCN retains the right to remove the mail in question.
- Problems with mail forwarding
- If you do not receive forwarded mails at the forwarding mail address, this may be due to the following:
- You have made an error in the forwarding instruction. If so, you can change the mail forwarding instruction.
- The University mail server is temporarily unavailable. Check on the maintenance and faults page for registered errors. Your e-mail will be kept and sent once the server is operational.
- Your provider’s mail server may be temporarily unavailable. The uMail mail server will offer the mail again within a set period of time. If your provider’s server is operational again within this period, the mail will be sent.
- The quota of your uMail box has been exceeded. Clear out your uMail box.
- The quota of the mailbox for your forwarded mail has been exceeded.
