Who is given an ULCN account?
Every member of staff with an appointment at the University has the right to an ULCN account. Following registration, you will receive by letter your account details at the address where you are registered. You should apply for your account details yourself if you have not received this letter.
What can I do with the ULCN account?
  • Work stations
    Access to your own work station (PC) and the work stations in the faculties, in Plexus student centre and the University Library.
     
  • Leiden University Wireless Access (LUWA)
    LUWA provides wireless access to internet with your own laptop.
     
  • uMail
    Access to your uMailbox, including mail forwarding to an alternative mail address.
     
  • uPrefs
    Here you can change your ULCN password and create extra settings for Blackboard.
     
  • Blackboard
    Access to the digital teaching environment.
     
  • UB Catalogue
    Searching for books and journals (including electronic journals) in the libraries of University Leiden Libraries.
     
  • Digital Library
    Access to catalogues, bibliographic files, full-text sources and electronic journals of University Leiden Libraries.
     
  • SAP Self Service
    Requesting and checking leave days.
     
  • eStemmen
    Voting for staff members of faculty boards and personnel committees.
     
  • Surfspot
    Ordering software via a campus licence.
     
  • Weblog
    Maintaining a blog, including an academic blog.
Work station
Following registration, almost every staff member is assigned his or her own work station. Most of these are so-called VUW work stations. The faculties of Archaeology, Medicine (LUMC), Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Science have their own work station environment with specific applications.

Your log-in name at your work station is the same as your ULCN account. Please note: the password is different. If you change the password of your work station, the password is your ULCN account is not changed automatically (the same applies vice versa).

Almost all staff members have their own work mailbox (generally Microsoft Outlook) at their faculty or department (for example: jj.van.leiden@law.leidenuniv.nl). Members of staff also have a ULCN uMailbox (for example,  j.j.de.groot@umail.leidenuniv.nl). You can use your uMailbox separately or forward your uMail to your work mailbox.
