Connection to the SURF federation
Leiden University was connected to the SURF federation on 8 April 2009. This makes web applications available via the SURF federation on the basis of Single Sign On. As user, you only need to log in once to a linked application. Thereafter you can click on to other web applications without having to log in again.

Which web applications are connected to the SURF federation?
The following web applications are currently connected:
  • Surfspot - purchasing software and other ICT products.
  • Surfmedia - a media service for and by higher education.
  • ScienceDirect - science collection for technology and medicine (available via UB).
  • EBSCO - access to more than 150 databases (available via UB).

How do you log in?
  • Go to one of the four web applications.
  • Select ‘ Leiden University’ as the institution.
  • The central log-in page will appear (uAccess).
  • Enter your ULCN user name and password and click on log in.
  • Accept the message that the SURF federation may use your details.
  • You will be referred back to your c hosen web application.
  • If you now select a different web application, you will have direct access.

Why do you always have to log off and close the internet browser?
When you log off from a web application, you are still logged in to uAccess (the central system). You then still have access to the above-mentioned web applications, without having to log in again. When you stop working with your pc, it is very important that you always close the internet browser to avoid any possible misuse.
