More information on Yoga
Hatha-yoga aims at controlling the physical powers, ultimately to bring the spirit into a state of perfection (HA means sun, THA means moon; the sun represents the positive and the moon the negative powers).
If the positive and the negative are in balance, everything should function well, as this is where Hatha yoga links the physical with the physical. But if one single part of the body is out of balance, the whole human structure becomes unstable.
When the balance has been restored, a state of perfect health naturally follows.
More information on Kundalini Yoga
If you come to Kundalini yoga, you will learn about a dynamic and complete form of yoga which uses various techniques to teach you to perceive things consciously and to continually monitor your own energy. This process is easier with closed eyes, so you will have your eyes closed during a great deal of the lesson.
In a lesson you will work on Asanas, physical postures. You will do fairly easy and dynamic physical exercises. All exercises can be suited to your own level of flexibility; suppleness is unimportant. But it is important to listen to your own body and to adjust this to what is possible for you in a lesson. As a teacher, I want to assist you with this process so let me know before the lesson starts if you a have any specific questions or needs.
All Asanas are focused on breathing, which makes these exercises more powerful. This breathing, so-called prayanama, is key to this kind of yoga. You will learn many relaxing, purifying and stimulating breathing techniques which you can apply every day whenever you want. At the end of each exercise you will make use of muscle contractions called bhandas. You will use bhandas to use your own bottled up energy optimally and to disperse through your whole body. You will also discover what meditation and sound can do to you. Each lesson deals with meditation and mantras to teach you to focus your attention.
A lesson lasts ninety minutes and always consists of warming up, a set of exercises and meditation. The effect of a lesson should be that you are always cheerful and that you start feeling that you have worked in different ways on obtaining your own balance.
You are welcome to try a lesson and try out what Kundalini yoga does to you! ‘Wisdom becomes knowledge when it becomes your personal experience’.
Kundalini yoga is practised on bare feet and in loose clothing. Do bring along socks for the long relaxation period and a sweater or a small blanket to keep you warm. Drink a lot of water when you are doing yoga and if you want to eat something before the lesson starts, then have a light snack.
